WWM have a range of projects operating across the country. They share one common theme. Each project has been developed from a base of user consultation and involvement.
Expectant fathers programme Funded by the Parenting Fund, we are developing expectant fathers' courses in Croydon, Greenwich and Southwark. We are currently developing a DVD, booklet and website to support this project and meeting with midwives to help us recruit for the courses. We have recently trained 45 people to deliver courses. Recent studies show that as many as 85% of parents have unrealistic views of what parenting will entail.
Church Street We are a year into an outreach project with a group of 30-40 white and mixed heritage young men in the Church Street area of Westminster. At the heart of this work is the need to move more young people from direct street activity and into employment and education options provided by Westminster. To date this project has been successful in engaging many young people who have refused to engage with other services, and has provided avenues to employment and further education.
The ID Project Funded by City Parochial Foundation, this is a project based in Thamesmead Estate (South London) looking to reduce racial violence and tension. The Project has been very successful in allowing young people to examine their differences without resorting to violence, as well as encouraging the local community to challenge and report racial violence. Lambeth Children’s Fund We are delivering sex and relationship programmes in Lambeth primary schools; this is the second of two years. We are targeting Year 5 and 6 pupils and will be looking at what is appropriate to deliver at this time and whether specific pupils may need targeting with a more detailed programme.
