A Question of Authority

An article by Trefor Lloyd looking into the question of how to demonstrate personal authority when working effectively with young people.

Alternative Knives Charter

After too many deaths as a result of stabbings the Evening Standard and Daily Mirror were right to start a campaign for action.  However, their recently published charter is too narrow to be effective enough.  Unfortunately we haven't arrived at this level of knife carrying and use overnight, and no quick fix is going to stop the problem; complex problems need complex solutions.

Through our consultations with young people we would suggest the following seven point plan - The Alternative Knives Charter.

Young Fathers Initiative

Working With Men have developed a new website, funded by the DCSF Teenage Pregnancy Unit, and designed in consultation with young fathers - www.young-fathers.org.uk

More information can be found in the YFI press release.

Consulting with Fathers

Working With Men recently carried out consultations with 258 fathers for an inner London Borough.

Consulting is critical for any service, but the process is more difficult if the target group do not come through the door; and of course fathers do not. Those agencies aiming to consult with fathers often find it difficult to know where to target, let alone how to target. This brief paper does not concentrate on the findings of our recent consultations but the process of consulting.
